Day 1 in Japan: Sightseeing

Today I had a mini pizza for breakfast and left for a friend's school. I took the subway after I got a day pass. The school was an all-girls school and they wore uniforms to school. Also, the school had many ads for universities in Tokyo. Then I went to Yasukuni Shrine. It was a nice shrine: it was small and had trees in it.
Also, there was animals guarding the gates and three torii gates at the main entrance. There was also a statue of the general who built the temple during the Meiji period. You can see the shrine in the video and pictures below. Then we went to the Meiji shrine, which has a nice long park with huge tall trees. There is a garden and a few restaurants there, as well as a place to ceremonially wash before entering the main part of the shrine. Lastly, there is a place to write wishes and hang them so they come true.
The park surrounding the shrine is quite large and beautiful. Then we went to the Shinjuku district, which had nice cheap shops, and to Harajuku Takeshita street. Everywhere, shopkeepers were holding up signs and yelling at people passing by in order to have them buy their stuff. Then we had lunch at a nice restaurant in the area. Then we went to the Tokyo Central United Church, a church international travellers can attend. They were having a special outreach to people who were less fortunate, giving them a free meal and a concert. Then we went to Shinjuku. It is more crowded there all the time there are lots of people and shops. Then we saw the bridge from the Edo period, which was quite small.
We also saw monks trying to get people to give them money. I then went to a kimono store and saw many beautiful kimonos. There are many American stores such as forever 21, Starbucks, Gucci, lactose, and Adidas. Then I had curry for supper. It was a very sweet and not very spicy curry.
